The Miyut

When a baby is born, it is the tradition for an Elder, the child's Gookum, aunt or close friend, to present the mother and child with a Miyut, a bundle bag containing different items the mother and baby will need: a shichigooun (baby rattle), a wapsuuyiian (baby wrap), some handmade wool baby socks and blanket, some dried wood powder (used for diaper rash), a protecting wheel (XXX). Other items can be added according to the Cree community as traditions differ from one community to the next.
