This Web page is the result of years of partnership between Cree entities concerned by early childhood development. It is led by the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CHB) and the Cree Nation Government (CNG), Miyuuhpichinaausuwin Apatisiiwin Department.
BRIEF HISTORY
It is in 2008 that the Cree Regional Authority (CRA, now Cree Nation Government), Child and Family Services Department decided to make a group to support child development and avoid the duplication of programs and services offered for children within Eeyou Istche.
This committee brought together many of the entities that worked towards early childhood development such as the Special Needs Department of the CRA and CHB. Many Child and Family Conferences stem from that collaboration. In 2015, Avenir d'Enfants offered funds for community development and partnership in Indigenous communities and elsewhere in the province of Quebec. The committee became the Maamuu Uhp committee and its goal was to enhance regional and local partnerships to collaborate in the creation and sustenance of activities and programs for young children and their parents.
As Avenir d'Enfants funds were terminated in 2020 and the Covid pandemic began, the Maamuu Uhp, as it was known, was dissolved. It was picked up again in 2021 but its membership was reduced to specific decision making representatives of the CNG and the CHB.
